Sicily + Piedmont

SEPTEMBER 29 - OCTOBER 8, 2017

8 nights

Western Sicily

Nights 1 - 4

Western Sicily, and its capital, Palermo, are the living expression of over 3,000 years of occupying invaders. The remnant passive chaos of multiple cultures is evident on every street corner: in the art and architecture, in the food, and in the living ruins that surround us.

Highlights

  • Accommodations at the luxury Hotel Villa Igeia on the Gulf of Palermo
  • A visit to the storied mountaintop village of Erice by fenicular
  • A morning at the Trapani Salt Flats, in production for over 2,000 years
  • An all-day cooking extravaganza with a Duchess at her waterfront grand home
  • A sumptuous dinner and a tour of the Duchess' palazzo
  • A guided walking tour of Palermo, including some of the world's finest food markets
  • A visit to Baglio Donna Franca, a working vineyard and agriturismo for dinner and wine tasting

Le Langhe + Roero

Nights 5 - 8

We'll bookend Italy with a journey north to Piedmont. Nestled in the foothills of the Alps, Piedmont is the seat of the Italian unification movement, a former coveted prize for Austro-Hungarian and French forces, and now a prized destination for its world-class wines, cheeses, chocolates, cuisine and, of course, truffles.

  • Enjoy 2 nights in Turin, the sophisticated cultural capital of Italy at the centrally located boutique Grand Hotel Sitea
  • Dinner at del Cambio, established 1711, and considered one of the most elegant dining experiences in all of Italy
  • Dinner at Circolo dei Lettori, a private Literary Club cum fabulous restaurant
  • Accommodations for 2 nights at Castello Guarene (a former feudal lord's estate) turned 5-Star Relais et Chateaux resort and spa
