June 4 - 12, 2016

8 nights

Timeless rome

Nights 1 - 3

Our Rome is the Rome of open air markets, asparagus and artichokes, cacio e pepe, sipping espresso as wizened old men play checkers nearby. We'll stroll the Via Margutta, peruse the flea markets, and feast on cheese, wine and bread. It's a day at the beach for food lovers. Relaxed, refreshing and rejuvenating.

Highlights

  • Campo dei Fiori, a pizza bianca and a gelato at one of the few open-air markets still operating in Rome
  • Roscioli, for salume and cheeses at their source. And the bread! And wine!
  • Learn the magic and secrets of typical Roman cuisine in a hands-on cooking class
  • Sip hot chocolate as thick as pudding at Caffé della Pace
  • Or coffee with a secret at Caffé Sant'Eustachio in Piazza Sant'Eustachio close enough to the Pantheon to pop in for a visit
  • Relax with a Campari Spritz at sunset at the Piazza del Popolo, duck into Santa Maria del Popolo to see two Caravaggios without the crowds
  • Dinner and nighttime tour of the Trastevere district

rustic abruzzo

Nights 4 - 8

Poverty, rough terrain and being last on Italy's Unification to-do list caused mass exodus from Abruzzo in the 20th century. The good news? Those who remain are steadfastly invested in sustaining Abruzzo's unique culinary and wine traditions. We'll have the time, resources and connections to explore them all -- from the mountain villages to the seaside fish piers. It's Italy the way it used to be.
